Quick start

Clone the template, set up a local database and run Emberstack on your machine.

This guide gets Emberstack running locally. You need Bun and a Cloudflare account. Stripe is only needed once you test payments.

  1. Clone and install

Clone the repo from github.com/freekrai/emberstack, change into the folder and run bun install.

  2. Log in to Cloudflare

Run bunx wrangler login. Workers AI always runs remotely, even in development, so wrangler needs an account to talk to.

  3. Add local secrets

Copy .dev.vars.example to .dev.vars. Set BETTER_AUTH_SECRET to a random string (openssl rand -hex 32 makes one). The Stripe keys can wait until you test payments.

  4. Create the local database

Run bun run db:migrate:local to apply the app migrations to a local D1 database, then bun run db:seed to add a test user and team.

  5. Start the dev server

Run bun run dev and open http://localhost:3000. Sign in with test@test.com and the password admin123, or create an account at /signup.

The commands from those steps, in order:

git clone https://github.com/freekrai/emberstack
cd emberstack
bun install
bunx wrangler login
cp .dev.vars.example .dev.vars
bun run db:migrate:local
bun run db:seed
bun run dev

Open the CMS

The marketing site and blog are managed at http://localhost:3000/_emdash/admin. On the first visit EmDash migrates its own database, loads the starter content from seed/seed.json and asks you to create an admin account.

Local data

Local D1, KV and R2 data lives under .wrangler/state. Delete that folder to start over, then run the migrate and seed commands again.
